POPULATION RESEARCH CENTRE
|
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi established the Population Research Centre (PRC), Shimla in 1989 at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. It is an undeveloped PRC. The primary objectives of the PRC are:
- To conduct research and training programmes on population and development related issues in a broad inter-disciplinary perspective;
- To conduct, evaluate and to monitor ongoing studies pertaining to health and family welfare programmes in Himachal Pradesh;
- To promote co-operative endeavours and interaction between research scholars and institution in the field of health, population and development;
- To undertake client specific sponsored studies / surveys on request from various agencies (e.g. central and state governments and other funding / donor agencies) on consultancy basis, in the broader field of population, health and family welfare related issues in Himachal Prades
In addition to the routine functions, the population Research Centre Shimla is also doing the following work:
- Functioning as Nodal Agency of Child Line India Foundation (CIF) sponsored by Ministry of Social Justice and Women empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi.
- PRC also time to time monitors different research projects sponsored by State/Central Government and its agencie

| Eligibility |
| 1. Diploma in Population Studies |
Bachelor's degree(or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks in the aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST) or the Master's degree (or its equivalent) with 45% in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST). A candidate who has put a minimum 3 years service ;in any institution or department (Government, Semi Government, Corporate Undertaking, Local Self Govt. Bodies, registered NGOs) shall be given an extra weightage of 5% while preparing the merit for admission.
The eligibility for admission to the course for admission against above Non-Subsidised seats will be the same as provided for other candidates. But the merit for the admission will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination plus the weightage of marks in the subject concerned. However, the candidate will need to put a separate application form for these seats accompanied by the requisite fees and all other documents on one of three forms in this ;handbook, stating on the form that the application is for supernumerary seats.

| The admission will be made purely on merit, except where otherwise mentioned, subject to the limitation of seats available and the reservation. The following are the eligibility conditions for admission to various courses, provided further that for the purpose of admission 0.5% and above marks should be considered equal to 1% marks (Notification No. 4-9/94-HPU-Acad. dated 27-6-1995) |
